Nutrition has always played an important role in Courtney’s life—she grew up with a front-row seat to the side effects of type 2 diabetes. She witnessed the impact of the insidious disease on loved ones, in particular, her grandmother who experienced the most devastating consequences. Her grandmother ultimately succumbed to the disease after spending three days each week for eleven years receiving kidney dialysis. Witnessing her grandmother’s inability to employ proper nutrition inspired Courtney to build a career in nutrition.
Courtney holds a BS in dietetics from James Madison University and has an MS in human nutrition and functional medicine through the University of Western States. Courtney is currently studying for the license exam to become a Certified Clinical Nutritionist (CCN).
She has worked as a Nutrition Educator for the Manatee County WIC (Women, Infant, and Children) program in Bradenton, Florida. As a Nutrition Educator, she counseled pre- and post-natal women and children under the age of five in nutrition. From there, she became the Nutrition Content Specialist for Muscle & Fitness magazine in NYC, where she oversaw all nutrition-related content for their website. Courtney has also worked as a Medical Editor for McCann Health New York and as the Labeling Specialist for Camerican International, implementing FDA protocols for packaged food. Currently, Courtney works full-time for The Vitamin Shoppe headquarters doing product development for their private brand lines.
Courtney has also written feature health and nutrition articles for ALOHA magazine, LiveStrong.com, The San Francisco Chronicle, Muscle & Fitness, Taste of Home, Vitamin Retailer magazine, and Natural Practitioner magazine.
When Courtney is not counseling individuals, writing, or editing, you can find her running. She has run the 2017 NYC Marathon, the 2018 Vancouver (BC) Marathon, the 2018 Chicago Marathon, and the 2018 NYC Marathon.
